WHAT IS IEC (IMPORT EXPORT CODE)?

Import Export Code (IEC) is a registration no of DGFT required for persons importing or exporting goods and services from India. IEC is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India.

IEC (importer Exporter Code) number is a 10 digit code number given to an exporter or importer by the regional office of the Director general of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, Government of India.

TIME TO GET IEC?

Generally it takes 3 to 5 working days to get the IEC after the submission of application.

VALIDITY OF IEC?

There is no specific restriction on validity, IEC is issued for the lifetime of the entity and no renewal required.

WHO REQUIRED IMPORT EXPORT CODE (IEC)?

IMPORTERS REQUIRED IEC

All Importers who import Goods into India require an IEC. The IEC must be quoted while clearing customs. Also, banks require the importers IEC while sending money abroad.

EXPORTERS REQUIRED IEC

All Exporters who Export Goods and Services from India require an IEC. The IECe must be quoted while sending shipments. And banks require the exporters IEC while receiving money from abroad.
